These Date Energy Balls are such an easy no-bake treat, made using just 5 simple ingredients. Perfect for lunchboxes, or for a mid-afternoon sugar craving. They’re packed with fibre, gluten free and vegan!

These Date Energy Balls Are The Perfect Snack!
- Why choose this recipe? I have a but of an obsession with medjool dates and making them into date energy balls is my new favourite thing. These are the perfect combination of indulgent treat meets fibre-packed goodness. And you can make them in minutes!
- Top Tip: I love to coat mine in desiccated coconut but try mixing it up with chopped nuts or seeds, or a dusting of cocoa powder for an indulgent look.
- High Fibre: Did you know a gluten free diet can be low in fibre due to cutting out wholegrains like wheat and barley? This is a great (and yummy) way to add more to your diet – there’s around 6g fibre per 100g of energy balls, making them a ‘high fibre’ food.
- Anything else? If you have any leftover dates, try making my Peanut Butter Stuffed Dates – or use them in my Gluten Free Sticky Toffee Pudding!
Ingredients and Substitutions
There’s a printable recipe card below for these easy energy balls with dates with the full quantities. But here are the main ingredients and ideas for any swaps:
- Nut Butter: I usually use peanut butter, but I’ve also made these energy balls with almond or cashew butter too. Or a mixture! You can use a seed butter like sunflower seed butter for nut free energy balls.
- Dates: Both deglet nour or medjool dates work for this recipe. I tend to use what I have – medjool dates will produce a sweeter and stickier energy ball.
- Cacao: Or cocoa powder, either work well.
- Maple Syrup: Or honey. Omit this if you want to reduce the sugar content.
This recipe is also a great base – feel free to add chopped nuts, seeds, extra dried fruit like apricots or cranberries, or even chocolate chips! It’s so easy to customise.
